Brian Shaw, Assistant Professor of Music (Music Education), has published a new article, "Beginning Music Teachers’ Self-Reported First-Year Preparation," in the prestigious Journal of Research in Music Education. Drawing on U.S. Department of Education data for 35,000 new teachers across two decades, Dr. Shaw's research examined beginning music teachers' perceived readiness for key aspects of their work in schools, highlighting historical strengths and also opportunities for continued improvement in music teacher education.
